Yogesh Kumar Chawla is a leading hepatologist and the director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
He is among the most decorated doctors from India, for his contributions as a clinician and as an academician.
He graduated in medicine from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur, and subsequently secured a master's degree (MD) in gastroenterology from the same college before joining PIGMER in 1983 as a faculty of the department of hepatology and became the head of the department in 1999.
Dr. Chawla, is a recipient of the coveted Dr. B. C. Roy Award, which was presented to him by The President of India. He was also honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.
He is widely respected as a clinician, and has contributed significantly to the recent advances to the field of Hepatology.
